La Porte City Council Proceedings – July 14, 2014
The City Council of La Porte City, Iowa met in regular session on July 14, 2014. Mayor David Neil called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with Council Members Todd Butler, Sarah Craft and Mike Johnson present. Council Members Eric Allsup and Brent Sadler were absent.
The Council approved a request to close the 200-500 blocks of Main Street on Saturday, September 20 for a Flea Market.
The Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary program for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) participating communities. The CRS has been developed to provide incentives in the form of premium discounts for communities to go beyond the minimum floodplain management requirements to develop extra measures to provide protection from flooding. The City will send a letter of interest to learn more about the program’s benefits and requirements.
The Council approved elements of Phase I of the REAP Grant Application. Securing grant monies would help allow the City to rehabilitate the banks of Wolf Creek from Main Street to Commercial Street, as well as pursue the acquisition of property located on Tama Street for the purpose of establishing a kayak landing and a creek-side park.
In other action, the Council approved an Ambulance Service Billing Policy, updated its Credit Card Policy and approved the donation of unclaimed bicycles to the Cedar Valley Bicycle Collective.
