Hawkins’ Happenings – January 29, 2014

By Jolene Kronschnabel

The library has many silly and fun monkey books to read at Preschool Story Time on Thursday, January 30, at 10:30 AM. Bring your little monkey in for the program.

Try a blind date with a book. Choose a wrapped book from our display, take it home, unwrap it, and read it. Will it be love at first read? You decide if it is a stud or a dud.

With the XXII Olympic Winter Games starting in February, on Thursday, February 6, preschoolers at Story Time will hear stories about winter sports.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is the movie playing on Friday, February 7, at 1:15 PM. Join us for an afternoon movie with popcorn.

Attend a Valentine Making Party at the library on Thursday, February 14, from 3 to 5 PM.  Create unique and personal cards for those you love. We will have all the supplies.

The adult fiction paperback and hardcover books are now together on the shelves by author.  This change should make it much easier to find books in a series and all the books by your favorite authors.

Microsoft Office 2010 has recently been installed on the public computers. The library has five public computers for use by patrons, and WiFi too.

Please sign up at the library if you are interested in attending a basic computer use class for Windows. Let us know if you would prefer a day or evening class.

If you have an unused file cabinet, please consider donating it to the library.

Hawkins Memorial Library needs applicants for an unexpired term on the Board of Trustees. You must reside inside the city limits of La Porte City. Contact the Library or City Hall for an application.
