Addie Ballheim Stahnke’s Paintings on Display

The La Porte City FFA Historical and Ag Museum will host a special showing of Addie Ballheim Stahnke’s paintings on Thursday, June 27, from 6:30-8 PM. This showing will showcase Addie’s beautiful paintings. Guests may also tour the 2013 exhibit “Mixing It Up,” an eclectic assortment of items that give a unique perspective on history.  Admission will be $2.00/person and light refreshments will be served.

Addie was one of four children of William and Anna Ballheim.  All of the children eventually left the state, except for Addie. She never left her childhood home. She was in her late thirties when she met Harold Stahnke; they married in 1934.

Addie had a love of art from an early age. She attended the State Normal School for painting classes and ceramics, and continued to paint until she died in 1972. She was a pianist and organist for the EUB church and was known for her immaculate attire in matching dress, hat, gloves and jewelry.

Don’t miss this opportunity to view the works of a gifted artist. The La Porte City Museum hours are Tuesday and Thursday 1-4 PM and Saturday 9-12 from April-November or by special arrangement.
